05/August

Liverpool, United Kingdom

Board the ship in the late afternoon. After settling into your cabin, enjoy a welcome drink and dinner. Overnight cruising to Kirkwall, United Kingdom.

07/August

Kirkwall, United Kingdom

Kirkwall, the capital of the Orkney Islands, resonates with ancient echoes of Christian, Nordic and Celtic history. It’s a town that feels more Scandinavian than Scottish; in fact, the name Kirkwall comes from the Norse for 'Church Bay', relating to the town's 11th century Church of St Olaf of Norway. Exploring the town’s atmospheric paved streets and twisting lanes, reveals a number of highlights, including the ruins of the Earl and Bishop’s Palaces, dating from the mid-12th century and serving as a reminder of the Orkney's turbulent past.

08/August

Rosyth (Edinburgh), United Kingdom

Edinburgh, Scotland's historic capital, is one of the U.K.'s finest cities. Combining beautiful architecture, engrossing cultures and an extensive heritage, this Scottish delight is a must-visit destination. From the UNESCO-listed Old Town & New Town districts within the city centre to the lush parks and rolling hills on the outskirts, Edinburgh is a city that begs to be explored, offering something for everyone.

09/August

Cruising by Old Man of Hoy, Orkneys | Marwick Head, Scotland

Britain’s tallest and arguably most famous sea stack, the Old Man of Hoy rises 450 feet out of the Atlantic Ocean on the coast of Hoy Island, in Scotland’s rugged Orkney archipelago.

The imposing red sandstone cliffs of Marwick Head, on the rugged northwest coast of the Orkneys’ main island, are – according to the RSPB – a ‘seabird city’, home to one of the largest cliff-nesting seabird colonies in Scotland.

10/August

Lerwick, United Kingdom

Sturdy Lerwick is the friendly capital of the 100 islands and islets of the Shetland Islands. The bustling, cosmopolitan seaport is the islands’ only town, and its wonderful natural harbour is a joy to explore.

11/August

Portree Isle of Skye, United Kingdom

Portree is the Isle of Skye's largest and liveliest town. Set within a pretty natural harbour with brightly-coloured houses and surrounded by rocky cliffs and rolling hills, Portree is a truly beautiful place to explore.

12/August

Cruising Fingal’s Cave | Tobermory Bay | Sound of Mull | Duart Castle

Similar to the famous, UNESCO-listed Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, Fingal’s Cave is a beautiful basalt sea-cave with distinctive ‘columns’ and a remarkable symmetry that looks incredible as you cruise past.

Situated in the north east corner of the picturesque Isle of Mull, Tobermory Bay is a beautiful stretch of water sheltered by steep cliffs and tall hills. From the ship you'll enjoy views of Tobermory harbour's famous colourful watefront, which you may recognise from the popular children's television series Balamory.

Flowing between the Isle of Mull and the shores of Scotland, the Sound of Mull is a beautiful stretch of water that forms part of the Atlantic Ocean. As you sail through the sound on your Fred. Olsen cruise ship you'll see some stunning natural landscapes and will truly appreciate the beauty of the British Isles

Duart Castle dates back to the 13th century and is one of the most historic, important and prettiest castles in the Highlands. Set amongst a back drop of beautiful valleys, the castle looks impressive from any angle, especially from the water - a sight you'll get to see during your scenic cruise here.

A handy checklist of what to bring on your trip can be downloaded here.

We strongly recommend the purchase of appropriate travel insurance for any trip outside of Canada. Information on travel insurance options can be found here.

We operate a strict ‘no smoking’ policy in all inside areas. Smoking will only be permitted on room balconies (excluding Deck 7 Terrace Balconies on Black Watch and Boudicca), and in designated open deck areas.

Electronic cigarettes that don't emit vapour, may be used in rooms or on room balconies but are not permitted in any non-smoking public areas. They can easily be mistaken for real cigarettes, which may result in an unnecessary confrontation that requires staff intervention. Electronic cigarettes emitting any vapour - even water vapour - may only be smoked in designated external smoking areas.

Please ask a member of staff for the designated smoking areas when you board your ship.

The currency you need during your cruise will depend on the destinations on your itinerary. The on board currency for cash payments is Sterling.

Typically, gratuities are charged at £5.00 per person, per day for guests aged 12 and over. This amount is split equally between your stewardess and restaurant waiter, and will be automatically added to your on board account. While very much appreciated, these gratuities are voluntary, and therefore can be adjusted or removed completely at Guest Services on board the ship if you wish.

For your convenience, you can also pay gratuities before your cruise. We'll check with you at the time of booking if you’d like to pay prior to your cruise.

Each of our cruise ships has at least one fully equipped Laundry Room, complete with self service washing machines complete with detergent, tumble driers, irons and ironing boards. Just collect a token from Guest Services (there is a small fee for this service) and pop it in the machine.

We also offer a paid laundry service on all of our cruises. A laundry bag will be supplied to you in your cabin welcome pack for your use, if you wish to return home with a case full of clean clothes. Details of prices can be found in your cabin welcome pack.

Please note: travel irons are not permitted on any of our cruise ships.

Shore Tours are bookable online from approximately twelve weeks prior to departure. You will receive an email, if you have registered an email address with us, from the Destination Experience team, advising you when they are available to view and book online through My Cruises.

You will also receive a detailed tours brochure in the post to assist in your choice.

Once you've booked your tours you will receive an e-mail confirmation and your tickets will be printed for you and placed in your cabin for your arrival.

Each of our ships feature a selection of stylish dining venues, all serving a range of indulgent, expertly-prepared dishes. At breakfast, lunch and dinner, you’ll always find delicious treats which will tempt your taste buds. And, as all food is included on your cruise, you can indulge as much or as little as you like.

Start the day with eggs made to order; a hearty full English, or a lighter breakfast from the buffet if you prefer. Lunchtime offers a select á la carte menu alongside a tempting buffet for you to indulge in up to three courses.

Experience evening dining just how it should be in the spacious restaurants on board, serving up a sumptuous five-course á la carte menu each evening. You can request a table size at the time you make your booking, although this cannot be guaranteed. Alternatively you can opt to dine in our self-service restaurant on each vessel, for a more relaxed experience.

As each evening winds down, our buffet restaurants open for late-night snacks if you’re still feeling peckish.

For an extra special dining experience, you can pay a small supplement and enjoy made-to-order á la carte dishes including perfectly cooked steak and seafood at The Grill; or book a table at The Poolside, offering themed menus based on your cruise destination.

The language spoken on board is primarily English. In general, there is a multilingual environment and you will have a chance to mix with a variety of nationalities. Excursions and public announcements are always in English.

For your peace of mind, all of our cruise ships have a Medical Centre offering primary and emergency care, with a doctor and/or nurse on call at all times. All our cruise ships also have two qualified nurses on board.

Staying connected with family and friends at home while on a Fred. Olsen cruise has never been easier.

Choosing a pay-as-you-go or day WiFi package will allow you to connect to the internet via your smartphone, tablet, laptop and other devices to send email, keep up-to-date with the latest news and share your holiday experiences on social media as you cruise.

Simply connect to our WiFi once aboard, select your package and you're set up. WiFi is available throughout our ships, so you can connect to the internet in your room or whilst relaxing in any of the public areas.

Any charges will be billed directly to your on board account. Charges for our WiFi service* are as follows:

- 60 minutes ‘pay as you go’ - £26
- 120 minutes ‘pay as you go’ - £41
- 5 days unlimited - £50
- 7 days unlimited - £63
- 8 days+ unlimited - £6 per day

To make the most of your WiFi package, we recommend writing any emails you wish to send before you log on. This will help you save internet minutes for browsing, checking social media and other tasks.

Please note: this internet service is operated via a maritime satellite connection, and speeds are often slower than you experience at home. The availability of the service is subject to environmental factors outside of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines control.

There are no vaccinations required to travel to the U.K. However, we suggest you consult your physician with any specific personal requirements for this program.

As always, we recommend being in good health prior to any long distance travel.

Once on board, we kindly request that all guests attend a safety procedure demonstration (also known as a muster drill). This simply requires guests to gather in their allocated meeting point which will be detailed on your guest cabin card. Once at your meeting point, you are required to log your name with the member of staff, and listen to the demonstration and safety instructions.
