Walk in the footsteps of the Impressionists, explore Normandy’s storied past, and savor authentic French experiences. Each stop offers unique beauty, from the iconic Parisian skyline to the charming villages that inspired artistic masterpieces.
Itinerary
Embark this afternoon in Paris, the romantic City of Light. After unpacking, join your fellow travelers for a Welcome Cocktail, followed by a specially-prepared Welcome Dinner.
In the Steps of Vincent Van Gogh
Arrive in Conflans, where the Oise and Seine rivers meet. From here, visit Auvers-sur-Oise, the picturesque village closely linked to Vincent van Gogh and other Impressionist artists. Walk through charming lanes, see places connected to Van Gogh’s final days, and visit Château d’Auvers for an immersive look into the world of Impressionism before returning to the ship.
The City of 100 Spires
Arrive in Rouen, Normandy’s historic capital, known for Gothic architecture, half-timbered houses and rich artistic heritage. Enjoy a guided walking tour featuring Rouen Cathedral, the Church of Joan of Arc and the 14th-century Gros Horloge. In the afternoon, travel into the Normandy countryside to Le Pressoir d’Or before enjoying free time in the charming village of Lyons-la-Forêt.
The harbor of Le Havre is your convenient base for two optional land explorations. This morning, opt for a tour to the nearby city of Honfleur, with its picturesque old harbor lined with 16th—18th century townhouses. After lunch, explore the Norman coastline on a walk along Étretat‘s cliff-top paths for a view of the steep chalk rocks with impressive needle-like formations. On board your AMADEUS vessel this evening, local chanson singers provide you with a taste of French culture and music.
WWII History and Normandy Heritage
Discover Normandy’s history and heritage on a full-day excursion. Visit Arromanches, where remnants of the artificial harbour recall the events of D-Day, then continue to Longues-sur-Mer and Bayeux, known for its historic centre and Gothic cathedral. Later, journey through the Normandy countryside to Château du Breuil. Alternatively, visit the seaside town of Fécamp and the striking Palais Bénédictine before rejoining the ship in Caudebec-en-Caux.
Monet’s Garden & Normandy Heritage
Begin in Les Andelys beneath the ruins of Château Gaillard, overlooking one of the Seine’s most scenic bends. Continue to Giverny to visit Claude Monet’s former home and gardens, where colourful blooms and tranquil ponds inspired many of his masterpieces. After lunch on board in Vernon, choose between Château de Malmaison or a Normandy Craft Tasting Experience before rejoining the ship in Mantes-la-Jolie.
In the early morning, it is once again “Bienvenue“ to the French capital. Explore the sights of the Eiffel Tower and the bustling Champs-Élysées, one of the world’s most famous commercial streets, during a morning city tour. Later in the day, join us as we delve into the allure of Montmartre, an eternal muse for creativity and expression, located on the highest hill in northern Paris. From its cobbled streets and quaint cafes to its iconic Sacré-Coeur, Montmartre offers a unique experience that transports visitors back to the ”La Belle Époque“ era.
Late this afternoon, enjoy a festive Gala Dinner and admire the city lights of the French capital.
After breakfast, your AMADEUS crew bids you “adieu” and we hope to see you again soon!
