Journey along “Father Rhine” from Amsterdam to Basel, cruising past Dutch waterways, Moselle vineyards, historic cities, and the castle-lined Middle Rhine Valley. Extend your adventure in Switzerland with Lucerne, Lake Lucerne, Mount Pilatus, and a scenic journey to Zurich—adding alpine beauty, culture, and relaxation to your river cruise.
Itinerary
Amsterdam welcomes you, a city where historic canals meet modern energy. In the afternoon, step aboard your ship and toast the beginning of your journey with a sparkling cocktail. The evening is devoted to a festive welcome dinner, accompanied by the maritime melodies of a shanty choir. Spend your first night on board as Amsterdam drifts by in the soft evening light.
After a leisurely breakfast, discover Amsterdam at its most charming. A guided city tour and scenic canal cruise reveal the city’s hidden corners, where history and contemporary life intertwine. Return to the ship for lunch before setting off from Utrecht, cruising upstream toward Cologne.
Arrive in Cologne early in the morning, a city alive with history. Explore the old town on a guided walk, marvel at the iconic cathedral, and pause for a freshly poured Kölsch to savor the local flavor. In the afternoon, experience the city on a guided e-bike panoramic tour along the Rhine, taking in views of the cathedral, Hohenzollern Bridge, and Rhine Park. Back on board, the journey continues downstream toward new adventures.
Every river bend brings new scenery. Today, a special side trip leads to the Mosel, winding through idyllic vineyards like a sparkling ribbon. Arrive in Cochem and explore the town on a guided stroll before climbing to the commanding Reichsburg, with panoramic views over rooftops and vineyards. End the day in a cozy wine tavern, sampling local vintages – a perfect conclusion to a day of indulgence.
Koblenz greets you, a city sure to capture your heart. Discover its charming streets on a morning guided walk before sailing through the spectacular Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Around 40 castles and the legendary Loreley rock glide past like a scene from a storybook. In the late afternoon, reach Rüdesheim, where a guided tour reveals its historic streets and the quirky mechanical exhibits at Siegfried’s Music Cabinet. The day concludes on board with “Music on the Rhine,” featuring soprano Bethany Barber performing works by Beethoven, Schumann, and Offenbach.
Early in the morning, we dock in Mannheim. After breakfast, a sightseeing tour takes you to Heidelberg, where romance comes alive with views of the Old Town and the iconic castle. Alternatively, you may choose an active walk along the Philosopher’s Way, offering wonderful panoramic views. Shortly after midday, we continue on to Speyer. During a guided tour of one of Germany’s oldest cities, you will discover the impressive Imperial Cathedral and sample the famous Speyer pretzel. Overnight, your floating luxury hotel glides onward toward Strasbourg.
“Bienvenue in Strasbourg!” The Alsace city invites exploration through a guided tour and a leisurely stroll along its picturesque old town, including the majestic Strasbourg Cathedral. Later, a scenic boat ride on the Ill takes you from the historic Petite France quarter to the modern European district, blending past and present. At midday, bid farewell to Strasbourg while reflecting on your cruise memories from the sun deck. The day concludes with an elegant gala dinner on board.
Your Rhine journey may be ending, but another adventure begins. After breakfast, board your comfortable coach and travel through the breathtaking Swiss Alps to Lucerne.
Your local guide welcomes you to a city affectionately known as the “Swiss Paradise by the Lake.” On a leisurely walking tour, explore the enchanting Old Town and cross the iconic Chapel Bridge, a 700-year-old wooden viaduct leading to the historic Water Tower—once a medieval prison.
Nearby restaurants invite you to sample Swiss specialties, and your guide will gladly share a few insider tips for lunch. In the afternoon, check in at the centrally located Hotel Astoria Lucerne (or similar) and enjoy some free time to relax or explore further.
This evening, continue your journey of taste with a delicious dinner at the hotel.
After breakfast, set out for a truly memorable mountain experience. Ride the “Dragon Ride” aerial cableway and panoramic gondolas up to Pilatus Kulm, perched at 2,128 meters above sea level. At the summit, take in sweeping views of the surrounding Alps before enjoying lunch at one of the mountain restaurants.
Your journey continues with a spectacular descent on the world’s steepest cogwheel railway to Alpnachstad. From there, sit back and relax on a scenic boat cruise back to Lucerne.
This morning, enjoy breakfast and check out as you set off for Zurich—by way of a scenic bus journey through postcard-perfect landscapes: crystal-clear lakes, rolling green hills, and snow-capped peaks.
Upon arrival, a panoramic city tour introduces you to the highlights of Switzerland’s cosmopolitan cultural capital. For lunch, perhaps indulge in one of the many acclaimed restaurants dotting the city’s vibrant neighborhoods.
Spend your afternoon entirely at your leisure: visit world-class museums, explore chic fashion boutiques, or relax by the lake. You’ve already checked into the elegant AMERON Zurich Bellerive au Lac (or similar), where a restful final night awaits.
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye. Your private transfer takes you to Zurich Airport, bidding you farewell with a heart full of memories and a suitcase full of stories.
