The Rhine Experience: History, Wine & Views Unfold the timeless charm of the Rhine on an 8-day journey from Amsterdam’s iconic canals through Germany’s historic towns and France’s scenic Alsace to Basel, Switzerland, or in reverse. Meander along the Moselle’s serpentine course, where vineyards cling to sun-drenched slopes, and linger over the breathtaking vistas of the Middle Rhine Valley, dotted with castles that rise majestically above the river. Let the legend of the Lorelei, the Rhine’s enchanting siren, stir your imagination. Explore the elegant streets of Strasbourg before concluding in Basel, where three nations meet and your river adventure leaves memories to treasure.
Itinerary
Arrive in Amsterdam and step into a world where timeless canals meet cosmopolitan elegance. In the afternoon, board your floating luxury hotel and settle into your stateroom as anticipation builds. Celebrate the beginning of your journey with a festive dinner accompanied by a Shanty Choir. As evening falls, the city glides past like a painting in motion – your voyage has begun.
Discover Amsterdam’s quiet charm on a guided exploration of its historic canals, elegant bridges, and hidden courtyards, gaining insight into the city’s rich trading history and unique relationship with water. After lunch on board, enjoy a final view of the city before departing via Utrecht. The river gently carries you toward Cologne, while the landscapes of the Netherlands slowly dissolve into open horizons.
Awaken in Cologne, where centuries of history rise beside the river. Stroll through the Old Town and stand before the awe-inspiring cathedral, its twin spires defining the skyline. A freshly poured Kölsch beer offers a simple introduction to the city’s local tradition and relaxed atmosphere. In the afternoon, experience the city from a new perspective on a panoramic e-bike ride along the Rhine, passing modern waterfront districts, green promenades, and scenic riverbanks before returning on board as your journey continues southward.
Today’s excursion reveals the enchanting Moselle valley, where steep vineyards cascade toward the water like green amphitheaters and small wine villages are nestled along the riverbanks. In Cochem, wander through cobbled streets lined with beautifully preserved half-timbered houses, small cafés, and local shops before ascending to the fairytale-like Reichsburg castle, which offers sweeping panoramic views over the river valley and surrounding vineyards. The day ends in warm hospitality and fine local wines, with insights into regional wine traditions – a fitting end to the day along one of Europe’s most poetic river landscapes.
In Koblenz, where two rivers meet, history and charm unfold at every step. Then begins one of Europe’s most spectacular river passages: the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Castles rise above the cliffs, vineyards cascade down steep slopes, and the legendary Lorelei Rock appears like a timeless guardian of the river. In Rüdesheim, discover charming alleys, traditional wine taverns, and unique musical curiosities before returning on board for an evening of live classical music.
In Mannheim, choose between two captivating experiences: the romantic atmosphere of Heidelberg with its castle ruins overlooking the Neckar Valley and its charming old town, or an active walk along the Philosopher’s Way with sweeping panoramic views over the river and city. Later, explore Speyer, one of Germany’s oldest cities, home to its monumental imperial cathedral. A tasting of the famous local pretzel adds a delicious regional touch before the ship continues toward France overnight.
Bienvenue in Strasbourg, where French art de vivre meets German heritage in perfect harmony. Wander through the picturesque Petite France district with its canals and half-timbered houses, and admire the soaring cathedral dominating the skyline. Later, a scenic boat ride along the Ill River reveals the city’s elegant contrasts as you glide past the picturesque canals of the old town, lined with half-timbered houses and quiet quays, before continuing toward more contemporary districts. Along the way, you experience Strasbourg from a different perspective, where medieval charm gradually gives way to modern European institutions and green riverside areas, highlighting the city’s unique blend of history, culture, and modern life. The journey concludes with an elegant gala dinner on board.
After breakfast, your journey gently concludes in the tri-border region of Switzerland, Germany, and France. Over 900 kilometers of river landscapes, cultural treasures, and unforgettable moments come together in memory.
